No Vacancy and the gift of Freedom!
Some of the most profound thoughts come to us in the darkness of the night. Sometimes out of worry, frustration, or even despair but that was not the case last night.
See I had slept hard for three or four hours and woke up and immediately was convicted with some pretty big notions.
NO VACANCY! Are you kidding me?
According to scripture there was just no room for a pregnant woman and her mate. "And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in swaddling cloths and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn Luke 2:7". I wonder how the landowner felt once they realized it was JESUS inside that overly pregnant mom. But I want to spin this Christmas tale a bit in hopes to bring you a fresh look without having to conjure up the famous Christmas Ghosts we all know and love. (I mean let's get real ... who doesn't LOVE a good ol Scrooge tale?)
WHAT IF there was room somewhere for this pair? What if Jesus was born into this world in the finest of linens.... would his miraculous birth have been documented in such detail? I think because his birth was predicted just as it was it HAD to come forth for people to believe, even if there were naysayers in the land. No matter where Jesus was born, he was born to bring freedom to the world not condemnation! That is why His birth was GOOD news!
Jesus hung out with the world, taught by example, and NEVER in a breath chose to become better than anyone else though He was by birthright. That my friends is often lacking the Christian community. Everyone wants to be quick to judge, quick to point out faults, and be quick to dismiss someone for the greatness that is within them ~ in order to fit into a shallow mold that was created by the false idea of what others believe a "Christian" should be.
Here are those exact words that I "heard" deep in my soul that I knew weren't just for me and were indeed to be shared with others.
"No room at the inn.. how many still say t hat? Jesus hung out with the world to show love and acceptance. Many believers now shun the world to show superiority and a false sense of righteousness."
As we are dawning on Christmas morning and ready to tell those we love "Merry Christmas" how much would those words mean if we allowed them to have the freedom to be their selves and to be wherever they are on their journey without "telling them" where they should be. Jesus walked the earth to share what He knew, to help others ~ not constantly condemn them where they feel that they are worthless and just not good enough.
Who in your world is knocking on your door..... and yet you refuse to let them in .. simply saying you have no room (no time, energy, or even resources)? These people are in our lives for a reason ~ we attract what we need, what we think about, and what we desire so STOP turning that away! Gift the gift of freedom to yourself, and to others to simply be ... FREE enough to be who you are, who they are with no condemnation! THAT is NOT your job!
Stop flashing that "NO VACANCY" sign, and embrace the gift of friendship, mentor-ship, and even .... being a person that someone might NEED desperately even if just for a moment!
From the King house to yours, MERRY CHRISTMAS!
