Motivational Monday: Go eat a frog!

That's right! Go eat a frog!

Mark Twain once said "If you eat a live frog first thing in the morning, nothing worse will happen to you the rest of the day." No kidding right!?!

What is a frog?
In this case a frog is something that is the most important task that you need to get done that maybe you have been procrastinating doing, or will take a lot of focus, determination, and just plain ol work. We all have frogs! For some it might be mopping floors. Many people I know say that mopping floors is one of the things in their home that doesn't get done often because they just put it off. Perhaps it is cleaning out that garage, coat closet, or even attic/basement. It could be something like having a difficult conversation, paying off a loan, or heck getting your tires rotated.

Why do it first thing in the morning?
It is a common fact that when you tackle one of your tasks that you would most likely put off until another time first thing in the morning, the rest of your day is a breeze. And in my case, I often find other things I have been putting off and now actually have a desire to do. Let's take this morning. Well it started weeks ago, but I am going to share my experience of this morning. That's right.... it started at 4am!

Yesterday I worked in my planner, and began to plan out the week. I have been adding potential frogs to my planner for two weeks now and decided to go ahead and instead of putting them on the side, to actually assign them days. Two of the biggest were to shampoo the carpet in the dining room and the living room. They are both very high traffic areas in our home and were needing some tlc. I have a carpet shampooer and specifically made sure I bought some cleaner this past weekend with groceries. Before dinner, I decided that after everyone ate, I would go ahead and clean the carpets in the dining room that way it could dry over night.  Little did I know when I woke up I immediately decided that I was going to go ahead and do the living room. Once I was done with that, I decided I would go ahead and do the master bedroom and the hallway. Done. Less than an hour. :) My carpets look lovely, they smell nice, and it has set me on a good pace for the rest of the day. In fact, even though we are going to go out and play some today, I have decided when we get back I am going to tackle washing down all the baseboards as well as the windows. :) Guess what. When those things get done, our home is just about spic and span. I mean there is ALWAYS something to do.

Will it make a difference?
Did you just read the paragraph above? Yes it makes a difference! Try it just for one week and see what happens! This concept is what has helped me get my home completely decluttered and deep cleaned (including garage!) in less than 30 days! I am actually writing a quick book on this that will be coming out in time for you to get your home clean and ready for the Holiday season!

"If you want to make an easy job seem mighty hard, just keep putting off doing it." ~ Olin Miller

I am sure some of you are thinking I don't have time for that! Well, yes you do. We all do. It is just a matter if it is a priority for you or not. There is a quote floating around and I don't know who to credit but it is genius! "If it's important to you, you will find a way. If not you'll find an excuse."

I challenge you to go eat a frog today, and continue to make it a part of your daily plan! I am sure once you get into the habit you will see how much MORE TIME you actually have in your day. That is what I discovered, and why I am such a fan! If you would like more inspiration Brian Tracy wrote a book called "Eat that frog: 21 ways to stop procrastinating and get more done in less time." I have this book in my Amazon Cart but haven't ordered it yet under the opinion of Clutterbug on Youtube. I also, have figured that since I have the concept down and am working pretty diligently in eating the frogs in my life I am doing my own thing. Really... if you just stop procrastinating .. the concept is easy! Now... get find a frog and eat it!
