Too much knowledge?

In a world where we have an abundant amount of knowledge at our fingertips ~ you would think we would lack for nothing. But I am learning one important thing. Sometimes ~ too much knowledge is detrimental to our walk with God.

First I want to go to the scriptures because really, that should be our first stop when we have concerns or questions in our day to day adventures.

Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?
The woman said to the serpent, “We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden, but God did say, ‘You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.’”
“You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the woman. “For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”
When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it. Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves. Genesis 3:1-7 NIV

Here is what stuck out to me most in the scriptures above one day during a study I was doing. "For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil." See, before Eve was approached by Satan with this lie .... she was fine. She was happy, and really she had no clue what she was either missing out on, or ways she was blessed. She simply was living her life, loving it, and worshiping as well as fellowship with God freely.

Now before we go to far, I am not against learning new things. In fact, I am not against furthering your knowledge on some things. Take my career for example. I teach preschool. There are always NEW ideas and techniques out there. I am all about revamping what I do, learning new things, and being open minded to what may change. BUT... when it comes to things such as diets / weight loss/ health ... sometimes it is too complicated, and in reality spins us out of control. Anytime I go to look up information on how to be healthier whether it be running, eating, what have you... I get out of control and often lose the entire focus of what I was trying to do in the first  place. There is a LOT of conflicting information out there and experts who disagree with even their OWN information often months after presenting it.

I am the most free, and enjoy life MORE when I am NOT searching google, reading tons of blogs/books/articles, but rather allowing God to truly lead me through the Holy Spirit in my day. Let's take yesterday as a GREAT example of that.

We had come home from taking the boys to their football practice and I had a few minutes to sit. I went through a few new house listings in our area to share with my husband's sister, and then had this idea come. It wasn't my own idea ~ because really there were a lot of things to do get done around here. I had this deep desire to go to the river and throw in rocks. I made the suggestion to the husband and we loaded the kids and went. What a GREAT afternoon we had! We ended up going to three different areas and really enjoying just being the five of us ~ without a schedule, agenda, or plan. I had simply suggested one place, and the husband led us to the other two. Had I looked it up ~ we would have had a "plan" or in the very least our first impressions would have been skewed. It truly was the BEST afternoon we have had as a family in a while. It has rejuvenated us all ~ for the week ahead, with a desire to do it again another weekend.

This was just another traditional hodgepodge post ~ where I simply just share what's on my heart at the moment. The next time you think you NEED to know something ~ question it, and try to go without knowing. Sometimes having all the knowledge at our fingertips ~ does not help, clear up our thinking, or even solve our problem. Sometimes it is best ~ to just go to the one who truly does know it all... God Almighty! Am I simple minded? Sure. I will admit I am. And I accept that happily. I have much more freedom in my life today, then I did even a week ago! Why? Because I search HIM.. first!
