Motivation for your Monday: Humility

This morning was one of those mornings God woke me up refreshed, and ready to face the day. And then BAM ... before I even got out of bed the subject of humility hitting me hard in the face.

There are so many verses that I can post here but this one while doesn't speak of the word humility is a picture perfect example of what it looks like.

Therefore, rid yourselves of all malice and all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander of every kind. 2 Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation, 3 now that you have tasted that the Lord is good. 1 Peter 2:1-3 NIV

Humility is defined by Webster as "the quality or state of not thinking you are better than other people: the quality or state of being humble". Wow! In today's society, even in the Christian circles, one may think that walking in humility is appearing to be weak. Hmm. David was once thought of as a weak little boy ~ yet ... he defeated a giant.

It is my goal to remain humble though I go through seasons where it fades. I am ever blessed though that through many ways God is showing me His greatness in  my life, I am on my knees in awe. Not because of anything I did, could do,or would do,but because of all that He is doing, has done, and will do.

3 Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, 4 not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.5 In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus:6 Who, being in very nature[a] God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; 7 rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature[b] of a servant, being made in human likeness. 8 And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death— even death on a cross! 9 Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Philippians 2: 3-11 NIV

Are you serving others or are you waiting for them to serve you? One of the reasons I do not like to go out to eat is I have a hard time being served. I would rather do the serving. I feel bad that someone is "waiting" on me ~ as I would again rather be the one waiting on others. At work, I do what I am asked by leadership ~ out of humility. I don't like to ruffle feathers and I have learned to step back and if my feathers are ruffled .... it is usually my own selfish pride or ego that is taking flight ... which once I realize it, try to deflate it as soon as possible. Why? Because I know God has a plan, and I have learned to be responsive to those who He has placed above me. Yes, my "boss" is above me. So is my husband. I serve them both with the same loyalty and faithfulness. Why? Because .... that is what He asks of me.

I am so very blessed to have access to God's word, his divine truth ~ and to gain some understanding that comes straight from the Heavens. Blessed is an easy way out of describing how I am feeling this morning.  I pray that this motivation will encourage you to dig in and see what areas (if any) that you may need to display a bit more humility and grace.
