Believe: to have confidence in the truth, the existence, or the reliability of something, although without absolute proof that one is right in doing so. (Defined here)
At the preschool that I work at, we have a volunteer who comes in and does "library" with each class bringing in a whole range of books for each age group. On this particular day this past week God used two of the three that she read to really grab my heart, and my attention.
The part that grabbed my heart in this book was when Buzz saw the headline in the paper that a Professor announces that Bee's cannot really fly after she had been flying her whole life. She read, and she believed it. Guess what?! She couldn't fly! How many times do we believe things we have been told or read that in reality goes AGAINST everything we know to be true? Yet.. we believe it because some expert says so. Why do we do that!?
The second one was Horray for Amanda and her Alligator by Mo Willems. Here is again the description of that book provided by Amazon. Having a stuffed alligator for a best friend can be surprising. Sometimes Amanda surprises her alligator with books. Sometimes Alligator surprises Amanda by eating them. But what happens when Amanda brings home a special—and not entirely welcome—surprise? The result might be unexpected indeed.
What grabbed me in this one was how happy the alligator had been until for some crazy reason, saw his price tag that was still on him. When he found out his worth was 7 Cents, his heart was broken. His value all of a sudden became calculated by that tag ~ not what he knew. Aren't we the same way? We are happy, we know what we have to offer yet, if one person says something contrary to what we believe, we are left heartbroken, hurt, and well defeated. We go from feeling like we are worth a million bucks to seven cents.
When we trust the process of life, growth, and development we must also trust that God is going to tell us exactly what our worth is. It is much higher than what the world would say and sadly it is much higher than many of our faith believing friends would say. If God has told you to do something do it. Do not let words from others slow you down because indeed He will give you the power you need to accomplish whatever goal He has for you. Your worth and value is found in Him... not the world ~ or their viewpoint.
